Kwantis designed and developed a secure, web-based data portal that centralizes and standardizes the upload, validation, and management of operational drilling data from multiple rigs and service providers. The solution improves data reliability, automates quality checks, streamlines collaboration between field teams and headquarters, and ensures full visibility and traceability of data transfers.
The Challenge
A major international energy company relies on a constant flow of real-time operational data — from mudlogging, wireline, directional drilling, mud services, cementing, and coring — moving from drill sites to headquarters.
Before working with Kwantis, this data pipeline was hampered by three recurring problems:
- Files uploaded from rigs frequently failed to reach headquarters systems intact, leaving analysts with incomplete datasets
- Uploading and sharing procedures varied by team and by site, creating friction for both field service companies and internal business units and consuming significant time
- Files often required multiple rounds of back-and-forth between headquarters, business units, and rig teams before they met the required standard — a slow and resource-intensive cycle. The client needed a single, standardized way for external service companies to submit field data, and for internal teams to validate, track, and manage that data — without requiring any new software installation on client or contractor machines.
The Solution
Kwantis designed and built a secure, web-based data portal that unifies the upload, validation, and oversight of rig data across the organization and its contractor network. The platform brings together five core capabilities:
- Secure onboarding. External users complete email verification and provide their company, service, well, rig, and business-unit details. Accounts are activated only after approval by the responsible team.
- Centralized uploads. Users access upload categories relevant to their services, from drilling fluids and directional drilling to wireline logging. Additional metadata is collected when needed to keep records complete and organized.
- Built for field conditions. Interrupted uploads automatically resume when connectivity returns, while clear status indicators highlight progress and failed transfers.
- Automated security and quality checks. Files are screened for threats and validated against international standards and internal specifications. Users receive a clear result—valid, valid with warning, or invalid—plus a downloadable correction log.
- Full internal visibility. A centralized, filterable view provides access to validated files across wellbores, data types, and service categories, creating a single source of truth.
The Outcome
By replacing fragmented, manual data-sharing practices with one standardized platform, the solution was designed to deliver: Fewer data gaps, by giving contractors a single, reliable channel for submitting required filesLess back-and-forth, by surfacing file-level errors and warnings immediately, rather than after multiple rounds of review between rig, business unit, and headquartersGreater process consistency, with every service company following the same structured upload and validation workflowImproved oversight, with headquarters and business unit teams able to track data delivery and quality in one place, in real time
Why It Matters
For organizations managing complex, multi-party data flows across remote sites and external contractors, the value isn’t just a faster upload button — it’s a standardized, self-correcting process that surfaces problems early, keeps every stakeholder aligned, and turns data delivery from a recurring pain point into a reliable, auditable operation.
